Beat the Heat! Part 2
Hello again! It’s getting hotter and hotter every day! Though, soon enough, we will be in for some heavy rain as we enter the rainy season. Good! I can use a break from the heat! Although for me, riding a bike to work through the rain isn’t always so fun. I’m sure those of you who bike to school can understand my feeling well. Anyway, as I said last time, here are some tips that you might find useful for cooling down on the hot summer days to come!
1. Stay away from fried or spicy foods. Instead, try some cold noodles! Especially soumen そうめん. They are easy to make at home. Just boil some somen noodles, drop some ice into a bowl and enjoy them with some pickled vegtables and some tsuyu sauce.
2. Drink right! Drink plenty of barley tea and sports drinks like Vitamin water by Suntory or Aquarius (My favorites). The sports drinks will help you replenish electrolytes that your body loses from sweating. Stay away from the sugary, sweet drinks as much as possible. Once in a while is OK but, drinking that junk everyday is definitely not the best idea!
3. Hit the onsen! I know it might seem strange to bathe in really hot water in the middle of summer but, I always feel really refreshed after washing off all the sweat and dirt in a hot bath and then step out of the hot water and feeling the cool breeze!
Well, there are a few ideas for cooling off. Next time you see me, please share a few of your own with me! I’d love to hear them!
